Since the letters cannot be repeated in the same order, you have a permutation. If the numbers cannot be repeated either then you have another permutation. Then the number of codes would be P1 + P2

look since repetion is not allowed then for the first letter or number there are 7 places to be           
                                                     for the second letter or number there are only 6 places 
                                                    for the third letter or number there are only 5 plces 

and so on so it is 

7*6*5*4*3*2*1 = answer
