Letter Codes In Exercises 37–40, an identification code is to consist of three letters followed by four digits. How many different codes are possible if 40. The first letter must be an A, B, C, or D and repetition is not permitted? Since the letters cannot be repeated in the same order, you have a permutation. If the numbers cannot be repeated either then you have another permutation. Then the number of codes would be P1 + P2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The last part of this is my answer but my teacher said it was wrong and told me to look at it again

OpenStudy (nali):

look since repetion is not allowed then for the first letter or number there are 7 places to be for the second letter or number there are only 6 places for the third letter or number there are only 5 plces and so on so it is 7*6*5*4*3*2*1 = answer

OpenStudy (nali):

the total is 7 because the addition of 4 digits and 3 numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have to have 26*25*24 in front of this or not?

OpenStudy (nali):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and thanks

OpenStudy (nali):

ur welcme
