The bottom shape is a cube with base edges of 24 yards. The top shape is a right pyramid with a height of 5 yards. What is the surface area of this composite figure?
2,928 yd2 3,504 yd2 2,880 yd2 624 yd2
A cube means that it's sides are all the same. Do you know how to calculate the area of a cube?
I know you have to multiply by 6 becausee there is 6 sides
Nice! that's great. Well imagine it's just a square. Do you know how to get the area of a square?
i think its l*w*h?
Kind of, that would be for a 3 dimensional square shape. To find the area of a square since all sides are equal, we just need to multiply the L*W which is equivalent to S*S (S=side) which is S^2 Does that make sense? If it does, from the first part you got right which is to multiply something by 6, what would the area of a cube be?
are you asking for a formula or a number?
Formula, that way you understand how to get it. :D
its 2(lw)+wh i cant remember all of it :/
Nope.. You had the first part right. it's "something" multiplied by 6. From what we came up with above, we know that the area of a square (which would be 1 of 6 sides of a cube) is s^2, there for the area of a cube would be 6s^2 where s=length of a side.
