Use a paragraph proof to prove the alternate interior angles theorem. Given: segment A B is parallel to segment C D. Prove: Alternate interior angles are congruent

AB || CD
therefore
angle 2 = angle 4 {Since vertically opposite angles.} .......................(1)
angle 2 = angle 6 {Since corresponding angles.} ............................(2)

From (1) & (2)
angle 4 = angle 6
which proves questions statement that " Alternate interior angles are congruent."
