How to identify a curve just by looking on its equation?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

check the indicies

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But indices wont give me the exact answer which curve is it...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

e.g. if i give x^3 +y^3 = k....how will i identify which curve is it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok let me tell you something interesting

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you have the curve with n as highest power then this curve must have (n-1) turn Examples y=x^2 (max power is two so it must have one turn) |dw:1343251200376:dw| similarly y=x^3 will have the most two turns |dw:1343251245828:dw| m not that much good in graphing it :)
