Train A leaves New York at 7:00am traveling to Boston at 80mph. Train B leaves Boston at 7:45am traveling to New York at 70mph on a parallel track. If the distance between New York and Boston along the tracks is 210 miles, at what time will the two trains pass each other?
This question is typical of what is on the GMAT. You need to disregard the names of the cities and look at the distance between trains and the speed of their approach. The first train travels 3/4 hour at 80 mph and covers 60 miles. The second train starts towards it at that time. Their approach speed is 150 mph. Their distance apart is 150 miles. They will meet 1 hour after train B departs, or 8:45.
so what's the question?
