Use the following definitions to answer the question below 0=3+5+7+9+...+103 E=2+4+6+8+..+102 P=2+4+6+8+...104 a) without computing each sum, find which is greater, O or E, and by how much? b) without computing each sum, find which is greater, O or P, and by how much?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They were not correct. The anwers says a) o is greater than E by 51 b) P is greater than o by 53.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know why the answers were different?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm really sure about my answer,I don't understand why can you get different answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

seems to be divided by 2, but that's not right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh! wait I know the answer give me a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a) Each numbre from E is equal to each number from O -1 O is greater than E because each number of it is greater to each number from E If you can see, E and O have each one 51 numbers in the list because of that the difference will be 51

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b) Each number from P is equal to each number from O excepting number 2 which can be seen like an extra number in list. Let's see: P has 52 numbers in list O has 51 numbers in list Computing each difference between numbers plus the extra number you got 51 + 2 = 53

OpenStudy (anonymous):

E and P are lists composed by Even numbers E: even numbers from 2 to 102 (we have 51 numbers here) P: even numbers from 2 to 104 (we have 52 numbers here) O has only odd numbers O: odd numbers from 3 to 103 (we have 51 numbers here)
