You need to simplify. First, get rid of the 5 by subtracting 5 from both sides: 7x + 5 - 5 = 35 - 5, which gives you 7x=30. Then get rid of the 7 by dividing both sides by 7. Since 7 divided by 7 equals 1, you get x = 30/7. 30 divided by 7 gives you 4.285, which I did on a calculator, but you could also do by long division. And that's the answer.
7x+5=35 -5 -5 7x =30 x=4.28
