Find the volume of the composite space figure to the nearest whole number. 170 cm3 180 cm3 120 cm3 60 cm3

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

A balloon has a circumference of 22 in. Use the circumference to approximate the surface area of the balloon to the nearest square inch. 154 in.2 616 in.2 1,521 in.2 484 in.2 is this one 154 in.2

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... you need to find the volume of 2 prisms.... the prism on the left has length 8, width 5 and height 3 the prism on the right has length 2 width 5 and height 6 find the volume of each prism and then add the volumes to get the composite volume...

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

would it be 1/3 times 8 times 5 and 1/3 times 2 times 5

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

then multiply them by there height and them divide by 3

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

I'll assume the balloon is a sphere The circumference of a circle is \[C = 2\pi r\] you need to find r \[22 = 2 \pi \times r\] \[r = \frac{22}{2\pi}\] get a value for r and substitute it into the formula below Formula is \[SA = 4\pi r^2 ..... or ...SA = 4\times \pi \times r^2\]

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

The volume of a prism \[V = l \times w \times h\]

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

ok

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

i got 120 and 60

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

correct to the total volume = 180 for the prisms

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

ok so is that the answer

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

yes

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

thank you!

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

what about that second problem i posted

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

can you figure out r in the balloon question..?

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

is that 1 right

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

pi r squared?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

no your question says the circumference = 22 so \[22 = 2\pi r\] so \[r = \frac{22}{2\pi}\]

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

3.50

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

good the surface area formula is \[SA = 4\times \pi \times r^2\] just substitute 3.5 into the formula to find the surface area

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

153.86

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

correct so use 154 have to go... good luck

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

thanks that was all the problems!
