Write the equation in slope-intercept form of the line that has a slope of -3 and contains the point (4, -5)

OpenStudy (goten77):

y = mx+b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that but could you show me how to get the answer? @Goten77

OpenStudy (goten77):

y=-3x+ 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then what

OpenStudy (goten77):

um well we know the slope = -3 so thats our mx part.. and since we have a point we just plug that into x,y and have -5= 4(-3) + b

OpenStudy (goten77):

-5= -12 + b then add 12 to each side and we have b = 7
