WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF VIROLOGY?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Er... saving lives? I'm not sure how else to answer this... I would think that virology, like botany or neurobiology or any other biology-related speciality, is important to different people for different reasons.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Virology is the study of viruses and virus-like agents: their structure, classification and evolution, their ways to infect and exploit host cells for virus reproduction, their interaction with host organism physiology and immunity, the diseases they cause, the techniques to isolate and culture them, and their use in research and therapy. Virology is considered to be a subfield of microbiology or of medicine.
