since the +3y and - 3y cancels each other out, we are left with: x=5 x=-1 then the next step is to add: 2x=4 divide both sides by 2 to get the value of x: x=2 plug in the value of x into one of the equations 2+3y=5 to get the value of y, subtract 2 on both sides of the equation, we're left with: 3y=3 then to get y, we divide both sides by 3 y=1 therefore: x=2; y=1
