–4x + 7 = x + 2 how do I do this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so basically what you have to do is isolate the variable, which is x, in this case.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can do this by moving -4x to the right side, make it positive, so it will be 7 = x + 4x +2, which we can simplify to be 7= 5x +2. Now that we have this, we will continue isolating. we move the 2 on the right side to the left, and making it negative: so it will be 7-2 = 5x. We finally get 5 = 5x. We divide both sides by x, to get 1 = x.

Did that help you?
