“If the medicine cures cough, it is red.” Which statement is a contrapositive to the proposition and logically equivalent to it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

need help on this one pretty confused...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think contrapostive means the opposite or something. . . all not is Y is not X . . . all X is Y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh? if the medicine is not red, then it does not cure cough. . . am i right???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@callisto can you check if i'm right?

OpenStudy (callisto):

It should be correct :|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm ok just wanna make sure...

OpenStudy (callisto):

Wait... If the medicine DOESN'T cures cough, it is NOT red

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here's the multiple choice : If the medicine does not cure cough, it is not red. If the medicine is not red, it does not cure cough. If the medicine does not cure cough, it is red. If the medicine is red, it cures cough.

OpenStudy (callisto):

What do you think??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so am i right?

OpenStudy (callisto):

To be simple, just add 'not' to both parts of the sentence, you can get the answer. * you need not change the order of the statement ,because it may not be the same if you change it :|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then so the answer is B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B-) thank you

OpenStudy (callisto):

Are you sure it is B (If the medicine is not red, it does not cure cough. ) ? .. It doesn't seem right to me :|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm what seems right to you then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok this is my last problem that i need to feel confident to answer. . . this problem is either of me failing the class or passing the class. . . please make sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need this last problem. . . this was the first post i posted when i joined the website.

OpenStudy (callisto):

Add 'not' to the statement ''If the medicine cures cough, it is red.” without changing the order, what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the medicine does not cure cough it is not red?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello?

OpenStudy (callisto):

Yes!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got the answer right
