Geometry, please help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Using trapezoid VWYZ, solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please show me how to solve it!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

this is an isosceles trapezoid since the two non parallel sides are equal

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so the two angles (the base angles) shown are equal this means that 2x+17 = 7x-13

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Solve for x and tell me what you get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 I got 4=x, but it isn't one of the answer choices

OpenStudy (raden):

i think the answer is 6, because 2x+17 = 7x-13 17+13 = 7x - 2x 30 = 5x x = 30/5 x =6

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

sry i was afk a sec, LoveToDance22 how did you get x = 4?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

and RadEn is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(sorry for my terrible drawing lol)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

17+13 is 30

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

not 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sad part is, I didn't even notice that mistake when I was re-writing it on here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did 7+3 >.<

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that's ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for the help anyways! :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
