Having some issues with probability. Can anyone help???

A multiple-choice exam has four possible answers for each question. For each correct answer, you are awarded 5 points. For each incorrect answer, 2 points are subtracted from your score. For answers left blank, no points are added or subtracted. If you do not know the particular answer for your question, is it to your advantage to guess?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

if you guess you have a 1/4 probability right and 3/4 probability wrong the probability you'll score 5 points is 1/4 probability you'll get minus 2 is 3/4 what do you think?

That makes sense. so does that mean it would not be a good idea to guess?? what if I can eliminate one possible choice

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

if you can eliminate ONE choice your probability you'll be right is 1/3 and the brobability you're wrong is 2/3 so again there's a higher probability you're wrong

I think I get it. Thanks soooo much!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

welcome ^_^
