Using Python, how would a calculate something to its nth root? y = (-19+100)**(1/4.0) This gives me the proper answer, but is it the proper way to do it?

If with "the proper way" you mean a built-in function in Python, I don't think it exists. But it is possible write your own function, may be with pow(x, 1/n).
