Whats a concise format for writing a DBQ and most importantly an FRQ for (A.P) U.S History. Ex. Prompt they gave: "Throughout it's history, the US has been a land of refuge and opportunity for immigrants." Assess the validity of the statement in the view of the experience of the Irish in the nineteenth century urban northeast. **Note: I don't want you to write it for me but where exactly do I start? What research first off??
for a DBQ, all your research will be given in the form of the ~9 documents. The first key is to group them--by date, bias, ethnicity of writer, location of writer, anything that will prove your thesis. And your thesis basically answers the prompt, with an explanation of how each group of documents discusses the US as a land of refuge and opportunity. Now, write a paragraph for each grouping. Assess why the author said what he said, and how that proves a mini-thesis about that group (which proves your thesis) Clear as mud? good. Don't forget to bring in any background info you know, and think of another source (or type of source) that would be useful. Most importantly, know what the AP graders are looking for, b/c that is what your teacher is looking for. if you need more help, just google how to write an apush dbq. There are tons of resources.
This makes a bit more sense, now alls left is the FRQ part. Or are they that similar? Lol at that "clear as mud" bit. c:
don't know about FRQs. I know that they are supposed to test your knowledge (ie, no sources) Basically, think up a good thesis and prove it the best you can using lots of relevant historical evidence. For all AP History essays, I just force myself to go one step further analytically, and explain WHY things happened. It seems to work (my AP World teacher liked it a lot, and I got a 5)
