Writing 21 Online

I am editing a paper. The writer is referencing an author who wrote a book in 1964 and died in 1980. The book was reprinted in 2003, which is the version he is referencing in his paper. Considering that the information he is referencing concerns technological advancements, I believe that he should be specific when referencing this author to make it clear that the work was originally published before computers were in nearly every home. How would he be able to do this correctly, using APA style?
