can someone explain how to solve this?? if y=1.8 when x=-0.18, what is y when x=-0.51? a. -0.05 b. -5.1 c. 5.1 d. 0.05

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well it looks like y = -10x so if x = -0.51 y = -10*(-0.51) can you finish the answer..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5.1 i believe:) thanks!

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

not quite... a negative times a negative gives a positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o my bad i didn't see the - in front of the 10!...how did you get -10 btw?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well I looked at y = 1.8 and x = -0.18 you can get an equation 1.8 = ? * -0.18 and you'll find x = -10 if you solve it...

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

I also saw 1.8 is 10* 0.18 made the adjustment for the negative

o i see..thanks for your help! i really appreciate it:)
