Which best explains why viruses are not classified by Linnaean taxonomy? A) Viruses do not contain any genetic information or a cell wall. B) Viruses share many characteristics with several of the kingdoms. C)Viruses cannot reproduce outside a host cell and are therefore nonliving. D) Viruses lack a protein coat and any metabolic activity.
C. Viruses cannot reproduce outside a host cell and are therefore nonliving. Being able to reproduce is required in classification by Linnaean taxonomy.
I also think it is 3rd i.e viruses cannot reproduce outside a host cell and therefore nonliving because at that time linneas was confused in which group it will come
@Vikas_garg Linnaeus didn't even know about viruses when he started naming things. Sure, he knew about diseases, but viruses themselves were first discovered a century or so after his death.
