In this article, “Part Time Work Ethic: Should Teens Go for it?” Written by Dennis Mclellan, the author writes that although part time work may have some benefits, over commitment of work, reason of work and quality of work are drawbacks. Mclellan asserts that working part time job builds character, teaches responsibility, prepare for adult world, and improve social skills. However, the authors concerns are students who over work sleep in the class, cut back on courses and take easier classes. And also due to stress they tend to take alcohol and use drugs. In addition the author states, “working leads less often to the accumulation of saving or financial contributions to the family than to a higher level of spending on cars, clothes, stereos, concerns and other luxury items.” (115). The author thinks that teens earn money for car payment, health spa, food, clothes or going out rather than paying for an education, families, or investing for the future. These needs have nothing to do with gaining invaluable experiences. Moreover, the quality of work, most of the time teens are employed at dull or monotonous job such as MacDonald or retailer shop. In fact 18% of them are working under influence of drugs or alcohol.
Based off the evidence – the many quotes, commentary (others and his own), stats, and experiences – that Dennis McLellan provides in his article, is his overall assertion that students should or should not work while in high school? Or is it an entirely different assertion? Make sure to provide and cite at least one specific example from the essay to support your response. This was the question.
can you guys help me with the connection? and grammar?
try re-reading this out loud over and over and if you did not spot errors, then it is fine. In my opinion, I think it does need trimming. Be concise and then worry about the grammar...
