Determine whether the formula describes y as a function of x. y = -x

OpenStudy (across):

What's confusing you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the way it is phrased is confusing

OpenStudy (across):

You're given some formula, say, \(y=-x\), and you're asked to tell whether it describes \(y\) as a function of \(x\) or not. Is \(y\) a function of \(x\) here? Can I write \(y=f(x)=-x\)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes because y= and f(x)= is the same idea

OpenStudy (across):

That's correct.
