OpenStudy (anonymous):

A tree cast a shadow 23 m long. At the same time the shadow cast by a 43cm tall statue is 79 cm long. Find the height of the tree.

OpenStudy (shane_b):

The ratio of the tree's height versus its shadow should be the same as the ratio of the statue's height versus the statue's shadow). Put another way, their slopes (rise over run) should be the same. Therefore: \[\frac{h_{tree}}{23m}=\frac{0.43m}{0.79m}\]Now you just need to solve for h-tree.
