(2x)/(2x+1)=(2x+1-1)/(2x+1) How?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because 1-1=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand why it's added to the numerator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does it just serve the purpose of being able to break up the equation into (2x+1)/(2x+1)-(1)/(2x+1)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think this is done to form partial fractions: \[(2x+1)/(2x+1)-1/(2x+1) \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, I'll just have to dig deep to remember my algebra rules, thanks
