What does it mean for a number to be the "solution" to an equation? Give an example of a variable equation and its solution. Explain in complete sentences how you know that number is the solution.

To be the solution of a equation, I believe there are long and mathematical rigorous definitions about that, but one easy way is to say: a solution of an equation is any variable that leads to a true statement. For instance \[ f(x) = 2x+3=7\] x=2 is a true statement and therefore a solution of this equation, x=27 is not a true statement, and therefore not a solution of this equation.
