Choose the equation of the line passing through the point (-2, 4) and perpendicular to y = -1/2x + 4. Is it y = 2x + 8, y = 2x, y = -2x - 8, or y = -2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any line perpendicular to y= -1/2x + 4 must have a slope of 2 So, only y= 2x +8 seems to satisfy ... And, if you want to find it when you don't have options to work with... you can write the equation first as: y= 2x+c Now, put x=-2 and y=4 as the line passes through (-2 , 4).. this will give you c=8 so the equation is y=2x+8
