Oliver needs to save at least $1500 to buy a computer. He has already saved $650. How much more does he need to save? Write and solve an inequality.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A) x + 650 < 1500; x < 850 B) x + 650 > 1500; x > 850 C) x + 1500 < 650; x < -850 D) x + 1500 > 650; x > -850

hero (hero):

Hint: We can eliminate C and D because there's no such thing as negative money.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, but how do I figure out if it's a or b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Hero ?

hero (hero):

It says he needs to save "at least" 1500. Notice the correct inequality has the 1500 placed on the "least" side of the inequality. x + 650 > 1500

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so how do we get the rest of it?

hero (hero):

solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x<850 so its A?

hero (hero):

You're guessing, which I don't like.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how am I guessing? solved for X and got x<850 and I think its A

hero (hero):

You began with x + 650 > 1500 and after solving for x, you came up with x < 850 ? That's impossible.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sry typo x>850 B. I accidentally typed <so I saw the answer as the one with the less than. ALso, sry for the late response, I was making lunch.
