Write the standard form of the equation of the parabola with the given focus and vertex at (0,0) (0, -1)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im not sure what standard form is; but a parabola is geometrically defined as: (y-h) = 4a(x-k)^2 where h,k is the vertex and a is the distance from vertex to focus

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i got me ha nd k backwards :/

OpenStudy (amistre64):

(y-k) = 4a(x-h)^2 better and of course with this you have to make adjustments for how it opens
