The clues in the question are "ovarian" and "crossover chromosomes". The only time you really see chromosomes is when cells are dividing so one of two processes has taken place: mitosis or meiosis. Our clues suggest meiosis since ovaries produce gametes (known as oocytes or simply eggs).
