OpenStudy (waheguru):

What happend to giving metals for good questions. I just noticed that we can't give metals anymore for a good question, why was it taken out?

myininaya (myininaya):

There was never an option to give a medal for a good question. If you respond to your own question then it can be a little more likely you receive a medal.

OpenStudy (waheguru):

There was an option, I remember

OpenStudy (blues):

Wasn't there? I definitely remember there being a give medal button on questions. It went away when SmartScore was introduced and there was much song and dance about in then...

myininaya (myininaya):

I can't remember.

OpenStudy (waheguru):

Oh, But why did they take it out. It promoted asking good questions right?

myininaya (myininaya):

I don't remember ever saying this question was good and this question wasn't good.

OpenStudy (waheguru):

It was before they had best response and just give a metal

myininaya (myininaya):

Let master mattfeury speak.

OpenStudy (mattfeury):

Yea there definitely was. I was one of the few proponents of it, so I can't really explain why it was taken out, heh. It was a communal decision. I believe the idea was that, we wanted medals to show engagement, and if a user was asking a good question, then they should be involved in the discussion and thus a candidate for a regular medal. If a user asked a good question, but didn't ever respond to it, perhaps they weren't that deserving. I honestly can't remember the discussion all that well though, especially because I was one of the few lobbying for it.

Parth (parthkohli):

We could never give 'metals' for good questions. I believe that there used to be 'medals' for good questions. The relevant answer has been given above anyway.
