HELP PLZZ Find two numbers whose difference is 5 and whose product is a minimum.

OpenStudy (turingtest):

please post only one question at a time the second question belongs in physics as well, not math

OpenStudy (turingtest):

is this calculus?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well......no end of algebra 2 so a little pre calc.....i guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would it be??? 5 and 0? for 1 and 428 for 2?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

like I said, one Q at a time please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so should i delete this or just write it down here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or edit it?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

no I fixed it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wow THANKS

OpenStudy (turingtest):

so we can get two facts from the first statement: "the difference between two numbers is 5" how would you write that with "math language" ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a-b=5?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

right, and we can rewrite that also as\[a=b+5\]right? (this will sere us in the next step)

OpenStudy (turingtest):

"the product of these two numbers is a minimum" forget the "minimum" part for now how would you write the statement about the product of the two numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

turingtest where didd you go?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 428???????

OpenStudy (turingtest):

sorry I was afk the product of the two number is \(ab\) right? and we can write \(a\) in terms of \(b\) thanks to the other statement we have above so using that sub for \(a\), how can we rewrite \(ab\)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk
