Please help... hali12 Assume that the given statements are true. What conclusion, if any, can be drawn from these premises? If the Sun is not shining, then I am sad. I am not sad. a) The Sun is shining.. b) The Sun is not shining... c)I am sad.... d)No conclusion can be drawn.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Which one do you think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u may be sad for many other reasons @hali12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y? and its just the question @xaadi1993

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

If the sun isn't shining, then you are sad But you just said you are NOT sad So if B was correct, then you would be sad

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

See the contradiction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea thanks :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

which means the correct answer is ...???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am sad

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but you just said you are NOT sad...so another contradiction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that's the only thing we can conclude If the sun wasn't shining, then you would be sad. But you are not sad. So the sun must be shining (for you not to be sad)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok, i was confused ther for a sec

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah it's a bit strange at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, thank you

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
