what is the vertex of the graph of the function y=|-3x+2|-4? Options A) (-2/3,-4) B)(2/3,-4) C)(2/3,4) D)(-2/3,4) and how did u get your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hhhhheeeeellllllllllllppppppppppp ill give u a medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@telliott99 can you please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can someone help us

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am not so swift with absolute value. I don't remember the rules. But I would suggest trying some points to get a sense of what the graph looks like.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So that's another thing, shouldn't there be an equals sign in there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tabby have you tried plugging in each choice to see which one fit right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ther it is just made a mistake typing it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

missed the equals at first OK x = 1; y = -3 sound right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i gave u options

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So here's the deal. I can't just look at it and it magically comes to me. I have to work it out. The best way I know is to get a sense of what's happening in a function by generating some points..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what I'd suggest is that you try some points, in particular x = -1, 0, 1 and then +/- 1/3, 2/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lost me there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The other way to do it I just remembered.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You write the equation twice. In one, you put the absolute value term with a + sign and in the other you put the absolute value term with a - sign and solve them both. At least, that's what I remember. So, I think you're on your own from here. Yell if you get partway but are still confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lost you on trying points ?????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's the first thing about graphing an equation? Think of some x-values, plug em in, get y. Plot the points.
