Which of the following points lie in the solution set to the following system of inequalities? y > -3x + 3 y > x + 2 (2, -5) (-2, 5) (2, 5) (-2, -5)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

any ideas on how to do this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

let me do an example

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

let's say (2,-5) lies in the solution set if this was true, then x = 2 and y = -5 should work in both inequalities let's find out y > -3x + 3 -5 > -3(2) + 3 ... replace x with 2 and y with -5 -5 > -6 + 3 -5 > -3 Since this is false, this means that (2,-5) does NOT lie in the solution set

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So which answer did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

{2, 5}
