Can somebody prove the formula for the sum of the first n terms of a geometric series?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Let the geometric series be \[\large a_0, a_0r, a_0r^2, .... a_0 r^{n-1}\] \(\large a_0\) is the first term r is the common ratio the sum of the series is given as \[\Large S_n=a_0 \times (\frac{r^{n+1}-1}{r-1})\]
