Hi I am trying to use a motor to drive a generator and produce electricity. Can anyone tell me if it is possible and what Horsepower, torque, amperes would be required for driving a 1KW Generator. Supply voltage can be 220 Vac or 12 Vdc(battery powered). Thanks

OpenStudy (ghazi):

you need to have 1 HP induction motor that will be sufficient and it will be of 15-16 amperes

OpenStudy (shane_b):

\[1HP= 0.746kW\]So your motor must be able to provide at least 1.34HP to drive a fully-loaded 1kW generator. You must also ensure the rated speed of the motor matches the input speed the generator requires. A rough idea of the amperage load for both motor input voltages would be: @220VAC -> 4.55A @12VDC -> 83.3A
