Write the equation of the line which passes through (2, 1) and is perpendicular to x = –2. I know that X = -2 is a vertical line. And also the point (2, 1) is vertical.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\((2,1)\) is not vertical , it is a point, not a line but you are right, \(x=-2\) is a vertical line, making the perpendicular line horizontal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

therefore the question could read "find the equation of a horizontal line through the point \((2,1)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you know that the equation of a vertical line is \(x=c\) for some number \(c\) similarly the equation for a horizontal line is \(y=c\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is clear what \(c\) is in this case, it is the second coordinate yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait what?

im so confused.....):
