This is just a way to engage the non-scientific public. Basically, there's a similarity between the data graph , and a line drawn through the notes in the musical score. I think part of the idea is to get across the notion that you can pick out the Higgs signal from the background music in a way that's analogous to how you pick out the Higgs signal from the background data.
