I just need help starting it:) Design two experiments that will compare two different factors that may affect the rate of the Alka-Seltzer reaction. Possible factors to be investigated include temperature, surface area, agitation, and amount of reactants. Remember to make sure there is only one independent variable in your experimental design for each experiment. You can only test one factor at a time. You will need to have two separate procedures for each factor tested. Be sure to write a detailed procedure for each lab design so that the same procedure can be followed accurately by anyone
Include details on the setup, the control of variables, and how the rate of each trial will be compared. For each of your two reactions, most of the reactants and products can be difficult to see, and concentration can be difficult to measure without the proper laboratory equipment. Therefore, it is recommended that the volume of carbon dioxide gas produced over a given amount of time be used to help qualitatively compare the reaction rates of each trial. If you have another way you would like to compare rates of this reaction, feel free to explain it thoroughly in your written lab procedure.
FLVS Chem? I have to do that one too still, it sucks, haha.
i know, I'm stuck on how to figure out the data without actually doing the lab. lol
lol, I've done that before because I hate the experiments. All the labs are pretty much what I have left 5.05, 6.03, 6.05, etc etc. good luck on yours then :p
yeah, i have 12 assignments left then im doneeeee. lol, thanks, you too.
Pretty much the same for me! I skipped around like crazy in that class. Haha, thanks! What teacher do you have by the way out of curiosity? I have Reyes. :)
jones, I keep postponing the DBA's. I did one DBA and i had no idea what we were talking about so i bombed it
DBAs are the worst. :( especially with chem. same for me, segment one I put them all off and pretty much bombed them and it was so embarrassing haha.
yeah, I did segment 1 at school but never did segment 2 so now i have to finish it or get close to finishing so i can start senior year on time. which is so hard since one assignment takes like 2 hours
Yeah, I was dumb and decided to do my entire junior year on FLVS being homeschooled, not knowing what hell it would give me, lol. Now I'm struggling to get most of it done on time too. Plus, I hate the hands-on labs the most. I wish they were all multiple choice, lol.
First decide how you can capture the gas that will be produced by the reaction of the Alka-Seltzer with water. What would be a logical way to do that? How will you decide on the quantity of gas produced? Is there a way to measure the volume? Once you have a method for capturing the gas, decide which variables you would like to test. Your instructions give you some good ideas. Do you have some ideas how to start now?
