OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

What is value of x, given that line OP is parallel to line NQ? x = 10 x = 20 x = 13 x = 25.5

x =10. I'll explain in my next post

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

ok thank u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because the triangle OPM and NQM share teh angle M and side NM is parallel to OM and NQ is parallel to OP and PM is parallel to QM, the larger and smaller triangles are similar.

OpenStudy (osuxbucks15):

o ok!

So since they are similar, the ratios of the length of teh sides from teh smaller and larger triangle are proportional. So you can use the ratio of NM/OM=QM/PM 18/27=20/(20+x) Then solve for x to get the answer of 10

Here are some rules from vias.org: Two triangles are said to be similar if -the angles of each triangle are equal, or -the ratio between the three sides are equal, or -one angle and the ratio between two sides is equal.
