If 3x + 2y = 11 and 2x + 3y = 17, what is the average (arithmetic mean) of x and y? Also, what sort of math problem is this SAT question classified as?
annoying?
its a system of equations, and they want you to find the common solution; then they want you to take that solution and average them out for some silly reason
Thanks. I was suspecting system of equations method of some sort but I was wondering if there was some super fast shortcut just in case. Otherwise, it may take a bit of time.
Would it always work if I solve for y of each equation then plug the values into a grpahing calculator and find the average of x andy at the intersecting points? As the question is multiple choice, teh answer choice that is correct is the answer I got using the graphing method but rounded up to the tenths digit.
