Evaluate f(-2) when f(x)= x^2-5, x<2 and f(x)=5x-12, x>=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Put -2 where ever you see an x and then solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks...so f(-2)=-1 right? i was wondering if you used the first equation since x in f(-2) satisfies x<2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This question has two parts, for the first part, you need to ignore the part after the comma and then solve for x. For the second part, you need to look at you answer(s) and see if any of the fall in the range provided, if they do, then list those answers, if none do, then you have an empty set {}

Oh wow that makes a lot of sense haha thank you very much! so my answer would only be -1 right? since (in the other equation), -22 doesn't fit the 2nd inequality?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct :)

thanks :)
