If the argument below is valid, name which of the four valid forms of argument is represented. If it is not valid, name the fallacy that is represented. Either I shower in the morning or I smell bad. I did not shower in the morning. Therefore, I smell bad.
Disjunctive Syllogism Either p or q; not p; therefore, q
i love logic, it easy once you get the hang of it, takes some pretty abstract thinking though. good luck
lol thanks!:) I hate it!
http://www.math.colostate.edu/~hulpke/lectures/m192/proofmodes.pdf here is where i am getting the terms by the way. use for the rest of your homework, assuming thats why your asking
if you dont get the letters just try to substitute in the parts of sentences for the letters and find the one that matches your problem
or you can just keep asking me lol
do u know anything bout euler diagrams?
? what do they look like? i took a class in logic last year, i got an a i think but it was a bit ago
just googled them, i think i get it. do you have problems with those?
yes when its more than one statement. how bout this Create a Euler diagram to determine whether the syllogism is valid or invalid. . All grocery stores are open until 10 p.m. The store on the corner is open until 10 p.m. The store on the corner is a grocery store.
outer circle will be stores open till 10pm then inside that a circle for grocery stores then inside the 10pm stores circle but NOT the grocery circle: another circle for your corner store actually you can draw it three ways, one with it in and one with it out or even with it overlapping showing that it is can be or can not be a store that is a grocery store
the bottom line is that the arguement is invalid because both stores are open to ten but that doesnt mean that the corner store is a grocery store, it doesnt say all stores that are open til 10pm are grocery stores. get it?
the fact that you COULD possibly draw the corner store out side of grocery stores and still follw the statements in the arguement proves that it is invalid
thats kinda confusing can u draw it for me... or so i have a circle inside a circle and then a cirlc off to side outside of other two circles?
see
ok thats what i was thinking!
I get what you are saying though
thanks!
