add 7 to both sides \[x^2+6x=7\]take half of 6, which is 3, square it to get 9 and add to both sides, write \[(x+3)^2=7+9=16\]take the square root, don't forget the \(\pm\) get \[x+3=4\]or \[x+3=-4\] solve for \(x\)

x=1 or x= -7
