A bar 12 ft long weighs 20 lbs. Its center of gravity is 5 ft from one end. An 8-lb weight is hung 2 ft from the other end. If the bar is to remain horizontal, at what point should it be supported?

So remember you can model any object as being completely empty with all of its mass centered at its center of mass. So instead of thinking of the bar as being 20lbs distributed unevenly across the whole thing, just imagine it as being one point on the bar like the 8lb weight. Does that help enough to get you started?
