Can someone Explain Step by Step how to do this??? Find the equation of the parallel line to each of the following that passes through the point indicated. y = -4x - 3 passing through the point (2, -7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

parallel lines have the same slope or gradient

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the gradient of your given line is -4 i.e m = -4 (from y =mx+c)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u now have m = -4 and a point (2,-7) use the formula \[y=m(x-x _{1})+y _{1}\] where \[x _{1}=2\]and \[y _{1}=-7\] does that make sense to u?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it does im gonna work it out real quick thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its y = -4x +1 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u got it!!!!

Thanks Again! :)
