A stone sculpture in a park is in the shape of a square pyramid as shown below. The area of the base of the sculpture is 25 square feet. What is the lateral area of the sculpture in square feet? 120 162.5 130 155

OpenStudy (hang254):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

[Base Area] + 1/2 × Perimeter × [Slant Length]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Base area = 25.... so side of the base = 5 and the slant height is given as l=13 SO, lateral area = Area of 4 triangles that form the lateral area = 4 ( 1/2 * s * l) = 2sl = 2*5*13 =130

OpenStudy (hang254):

i got 162.5

OpenStudy (hang254):

i see what you did there

OpenStudy (hang254):

But, which way is correct???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope. the formula @telliott99 gave is for total area... question asks only the the lateral area.. I am sure that 130 is the correct answer...

OpenStudy (hang254):

Alright, thanks for the explanation, i understand it now. :)
