Rhea plans to design a new balance beam for a gymnastics school. She wants to add a balance beam, FH, that is equal to FE, as shown. Part 1: Using complete sentences, describe the steps used to construct the beam FH equal to beam FE. Part 2: Compare and contrast the method of constructing the beam verses sketching the beam.

please help, i don't understand it? although i know for part two that constructing would be far more precise than sketching it

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

looking at the figure it seems you need two constructions : 1) construct angle bisector for \(\angle\)GFE 2) copy the segment FE on to the angle bisector

what would the steps be though?

OpenStudy (radar):

With a compass from F construct an arc on FG and and FE (equidistance from F), With a compass from the newly found points on FG and FE (constructed above) constructs intersecting arcs do this twice so that you locate two points forming a bisector (on the axis of FH) With a straight edge draw a line using these two points. With a comapass set the points from F to H and then from F mark the distance on the bisector.
