Mnemonics are often used to help students remember the rules, but the rules taught by the use of acronyms can be misleading. In the United States the acronym PEMDAS is common. Both a rhombi and squares have 4 equal sides. However, a square must have 4 right angles. While a rhombi do not need 4 right angles. Rhombi simply need to have 4 equal sides.

Therefore, a square is a rhombi but a rhombi is no necessarily a square.
