factor out x^2 + 10x +25 = 8 should be (x+5)(x+5) = 8 now solve for x. x+5 = 8 >>> x = 8-5 >>>> x = 3 you have 2 values of x because it's a quadratic equation. so you have 2 positive values of x which is equal to 5.
